She was only 15 years old when she was interviewed by the iconic Walters, 93, in 1981 after her breakthrough role in The Blue Lagoon.
Shields was promoting her new HBO Max movie Holiday Harmony on Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show when she very candidly said she found some of the interviews inappropriate.
Barrymore recalled an interview she did with Walters in her early 20s that saw Walters pressuring her about her substance abuse issues, bisexuality, and more, adding, “She wouldn’t budge.”
Shields said she wanted “the negative soundbite” as she revealed her experience with Walters – who has been out of the limelight since 2016 when she attended the New York premiere of Woody Allen’s movie Cafe Society.

Walters asked Shields what her “measurements” were, before standing next to her to reveal “how tall and slender” the child actress was.
Shields explained, “She asked me what my measurements were and asked me to stand up, and I stand up and she compares herself to this little girl, and I thought, ‘This isn’t right. I don’t understand what this is.’ it.”
“But I just behaved, I smiled and felt so abused in so many ways.”

During the interview, Walters asks her what her readings are before exploring her home life with Shields’ mother Teri, who was an alcoholic, sitting next to her the entire time.
Walters stood next to the then 15-year-old to emphasize how tall and slim she was, while Shields explained that her father was tall.

When Walters asks if she feels like she missed out on her childhood, Shields replies, “I’m still going through my childhood so I can’t say I didn’t.”
When asked how she felt about sitting and conducting interviews, Shields said, “I’d rather do this than not do this at all.” I enjoy this. It’s an experience I wouldn’t want to miss.’
When questioning Shields, Walters also turned to her mother Teri to ask her what she thought of claims that she had taken her daughter’s youth – something they both denied at the time.
However, Shields has since opened up about her sometimes strained relationship with her late mother, who passed away in 2012, whom she describes as an alcoholic in her memoir.
Teri began promoting her daughter as a child model and actress when she was a baby, and allowed her to be cast as a child prostitute in the 1978 movie “Pretty Baby.”
She also arranged for a photographer to take nude photos of Brooke when she was just 10, telling Bill Boggs that her daughter was “at an age where she couldn’t talk back.”
